no queries about the exam so far....

don't forget, April 15, in class is the LAST date for you to hand in the paper copy of your projects

this week, April 8, i can't make it to class due to a medical appointment. sorry.

Instead, you will be shown 2 videos about animation.

The first features Eve, a character that is really lifelike. See how complicated it is to make her. Look closely at her face - who does she remind you of?

When you're back at your computer, watch the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1ikmq7ddbs

Now think back to Eve... do you remember the face of the director of the animation company that made her? I wonder....

The second video you will see features Lara Croft. She is much less lifelike than Eve, yet still managed to make lots of men fall in love with her.

We are such superficial creatures, we men ! Smile ....or are we?.... what is it, apart from her physical characteristics, that makes Lara so appealing? could it be her character, her inner beauty?......

PostSubject: Test Easy?   Wed Apr 09, 2008 4:52 am

Dr David, may I know if the exam will be difficult? I have no computer background and when I looked at the past exam papers, they are making me more worrying and nervous for I can't answer them.Crying or Very sad The currently projects are indeed difficult to me. I merely able to do it and I am afraid of repeating this course. pale

david's answer: during the last 6 years, the only students who have failed either co1601 or co1603 are those that pretended they had a headache on the day of the exam.

trying to do past paper questions yourself is a good way of preparing for the exam. please do that, and post your answer as a reply to this message. i will read your answer and reply by pointing you in the right direction to improve your answer. i suggest you try doing the question that you think is the hardest. you are welcome to ask me anything about any past paper question. but do have a go at answering it yourself first - i expect you will be surprised to discover that it is much easier than it looks at first glance!

exam nerves are very common. i think the best way to prepare yourself for exam day is to close all your books at 5pm the day before. then, after a light meal and a bit of a rest, go out and take some vigorous physical exercise - any kind you like! (except the muscle-straining variety) - so that you will be physically tired before going to bed. be sure to have a shower or bath before sleeping. make sure your bedroom is well ventilated with a source of fresh air. this way you will get a good night's sleep and awake the next morning fresh and ready for action.

that's how top professional tennis players and racecar drivers prepare for a competition on the following day. it really does work.

the worst thing you can do is stay up late doing last-minute cramming. that only sends your mind into turmoil and makes your worries bigger.

next week in class (April 15) you must hand in the paper copies of your project. then you can forget about it (your subconscious mind will remember it for you) and we will just talk about what the exam will be like and how to prepare for it.

there will be no "nasty surprises" or trick questions in the exam. i am confident you will pass, despite your present concerns.

my exams are easy to pass, but hard to get "A" in.

Yes Exam; should you came across any difficulties in the past exam papers, do post them. Perhaps we could share ideas.

PostSubject: test structure   Thu Apr 24, 2008 3:21 pm

Dr.David, may we know what is the exam structure to our test that is drawing near? TQ.

Yes - the answer is in http://www.geocities.com/co1601/Co1603.doc

I guess what you are really asking is "will there be any choice of which questions we have to answer?" because you want to know whether you have to cram everything or whether cramming a few bits and pieces will be enough to get through.

It's a pity that the school exam system that has conditioned you to ask such a question cannot come up with a better way of assessing students. I hope i have, as my exam questions are designed to allow you to to show me what you know, and not whether you can temporarily remember particular point X or Y.

I have given you advice about exam preparation, a couple of messages above this one in this forum thread. Your question, coming as it does just a few days before the exam, suggests to me that you haven't read that advice. So my advice to you now is that you do so.

PostSubject: Hard?   Sat May 10, 2008 1:18 pm

Actually the exam is quite easy compare to its previous years. Q1 and Q2 is a very straightforward question. A resemblance of the question is found in the updated edition of the notes. Q4 is also in the notes, althought a little bit modified. Q3 the programming is actually not hard. In fact it is easy. But I made a mistake here too. So don't worry. Let bygone be bygone.

We cannot blame the question paper for being hard. We can only blame ourselves for lack of revision. Dr. David had helped us a lot in this course if you are aware.
